I guess it started when I couldn’t remember his name. That was a good thing.
There's a Man
were you watching tv
was the monday ball-game on
did they interrupt the radio
to tell you what he’d done
were you just left starring
was your mind in disbelief
did some friends come over
did they hug you in your grief
there’s a man whose name we must not mentiondon’t tell me about his childhood
there’s a man whose name we cannot say
there’s a man whose name has no existence
there’s a man who caused this world pain
i don’t care where he’s from
don’t tell me about his environment
(he probably blames it on his mom)
don’t tell me what he looks like
or the color of his eyes
don’t want to know about his jail-cell
or what he dreams at night
there’s a man whose name we must not mentionsome lit candles, some people cried
there’s a man whose name we cannot say
there’s a man whose name has no existence
there’s a man who caused this world pain
some shook their fists and shouted at the sky
some played his music, they played it loud all day
so they could hear the voice, a man without a name took away
that was many years ago
you know how memories fade
but i remember the newspaper and what it said about that day
'if they can kill john lennon, then is anybody safe?'
there’s a man
